למרות ש...: although, even though, despite, in spite of
כולן אומרות "למרות", אבל כל אחת באה עם מבנה אחר.
although / even though / though + משפט שלם (נושא + פועל):
- Although it was raining, we went for a walk.
- Even though she was ill, she came to work. (חזק יותר)
- Though I like him, I don't trust him. (קצת פחות רשמי)
despite / in spite of + שם עצם או ing (לא משפט שלם):
- Despite the rain, we went for a walk.
- In spite of being ill, she came to work.
- Despite the fact that it was raining, ... (ככה מכניסים משפט שלם)
however מחבר בין שני משפטים נפרדים, ובא אחריו פסיק:
- The hotel was expensive. However, the service was excellent.
שימו לב: לא despite of (בלי of), ולא although + שם עצם. נכון: Despite the noise / Although it was noisy.
